Killing Eve book 2: No Tomorrow
“You’re insane.”
“No I’m not, Eve. I’m just you without the guilt.”
I’m a lowkey fan of Killing Eve, although I still haven’t watched the final season. I told myself that I’d read all three books before doing so, just for curiosity’s sake, so here I am. It’s an entertaining dance in Eve and Villanelle’s dangerous, twisted world.
“The crossword clue,” she says to them. “‘Eliminate a flock of crows.’ Did you work out the answer?”
“Er, no,” the husband says. “We didn’t actually.”
“It’s ‘murder.'” She flutters her fingers. “Enjoy Paris.”
It took a while for this book to start for me – like the first one – but once I got into the plot I really couldn’t stop. It’s just so fascinating to read these women’s dynamic and the build-up of it.
But what’s the point of a game if the stakes aren’t high?
Comparing the books with the show is fun – it’s interesting to see which characters were killed off earlier and which ones are still kept alive. And as much as I like Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, it’s nice getting a glimpse into both Eve and Villanelle’s heads.
To be gazed at while you slept, though.
The bracelet.
The sheer, dazzling effrontery of it.
The plot was tense and quick, and the ending twisted in a very satisfying way. Odd as these books are at times, they keep you reading.
If you know that you’re being manipulated, she tells herself, then you aren’t.
3/5 stars.
